The incredible beaches near the old mines, including Spiaggia del Cannello and Punta Bianca, are truly one of a kind thanks to the presence of minerals like haematite, limonite, magnetite, pyrite, and iron. These give the sands and pebbles a shimmering palette of colours, ranging from bright turquoise to deep graphite black.

It’s a view that lingers in the memory, especially combined with the wild, rarely visited nature of these beaches, accessible only by sea or, occasionally, via rugged natural paths — ideal for complete relaxation. years half price Pet friendly Bar on board Ticket office on board Departure from Marina di Campo harbour, last pier Boarding starts 30 minutes before departure Book now Beloved by the local Elbani, adventurers and those seeking tranquillity alike: this is the Excursion to Punta Calamita and the Capoliveri Mines. Spend five hours surrounded by nature, uncovering Elba Island in all its hidden charm and beauty — an experience not to be missed. The journey begins as always from the port of Marina di Campo, setting sail gently along the south-east coastline, cruising close to the shore. One of the first highlights is Cala del Fico, a cave nestled between Ripa Nera and Cape Fonza, featuring a central entrance and perfect for those who love snorkelling. Indeed, fins, mask, and snorkel are indispensable! As we continue our journey along the southeast coast, we’ll discover, among others, the Acquarilli Beach and the Felciaio Beach—charming little sandy coves bursting with vibrant colours—as well as the Peducelli, Pareti, and Stecchi Beaches. The last is graced by a lovely jetty, perfect for diving in and capturing breathtaking photographs. A little further along, we catch sight of the Innamorata Beach, another must-visit highlight. Its name derives from the legend of a young bride-to-be who, in a desperate attempt to save her beloved, threw herself into the sea at this very beach, vanishing among the rocks. Every year on 14th July, this poignant tale is brought to life with a magnificent night-time torchlit procession. Just offshore from the Spiaggia dell’Innamorata, we spot the Isole Gemini, two charming islets framing the promontory of Capo Calamita within the municipality of Capoliveri. This area is also renowned for excellent diving opportunities, so it’s common to see boats carrying divers preparing to explore the waters around the islands. Beyond the promontory of Innamorata lies the Grotta del Bue Marino, a majestic cave standing 12 metres tall, featuring a small, steep beach inside that can be reached by swimming. The Cave marks the beginning of the Seagulls’ Coast, where, true to its name, seagulls live in peaceful seclusion. As we continue along the route, we encounter another enchanting cave, home to charming wildlife: the Goats’ Cave, where wild goats—skilful climbers—often rest during the summer months, before retreating inland as the weather turns colder. Here, we reach the true highlight of the excursion: the remarkable Capoliveri Mines. The Juniper Mine is the island’s only underground mine and boasts the largest magnetite deposit in all of Europe. Set against the untamed beauty of the coastline, the ruins of these old mines rise dramatically, evoking a unique blend of faded grandeur and rugged charm. A little further along is the imposing Punta Calamita Mine, where only the abandoned machinery remains since the mines closed forever in 1981. On our way back, we’ll once again have the chance to search for dolphins—fingers crossed! Discover these and many other wonders on the most spectacular boat trip you’ll ever experience. The route includes a guided five-hour boat excursion along the southeast coast of Elba Island, showcasing breathtaking natural scenery, prime snorkeling spots, historic mines, and enchanting local legends.
