Excursion 1
The afternoon excursion to the Shipwreck and Blue Grotto runs daily from 16:00 to 19:00, setting off from the port of Marina di Campo and sailing all the way to the Scoglio dell’Ogliera di Pomonte.
The tour, which follows the south-west coast of the island, offers the chance to explore a diverse range of sites, including the Galenzana Beach, a small cove linked to Marina di Campo by a short walk; the Bishop’s Grotto, named for the unusual shape of the rock at the heart of the cave;
Colle Palombaia, a secluded pebble beach accessible on foot via a climb of 206 steps, and the Costa del Sole, so called because its south-facing position keeps it warm throughout the year, particularly in summer.
The Costa del Sole boasts the beaches of Cavoli, Seccheto, with its captivating natural pools, and Fetovaia, among the most beautiful on the entire peninsula: seeing them from the sea reveals the true colours of these bays, where the water is simply spectacular.
Another beloved highlight and a must-see on the trip is the Blue Grotto, locally known as the Sea Grotto, which, thanks to the perfect size of our boat, we can approach closely to fully appreciate its wonders.
The Blue Grotto owes its name to the stunning play of colours that emerge around the cave, which also boasts a small sandy beach easily accessible by swimming.
The journey alternates between breathtaking panoramic views and uniquely shaped rocks — which we will explore together during the trip — before reaching the charming village of Pomonte, renowned to many for the Shipwreck of Pomonte. Indeed, in January 1972, a merchant vessel struck the Scoglio dell’Ogliera and sank at this spot. Today, the Elviscott shipwreck, clearly visible from the surface, rests on the seabed near the rock and serves as a remarkable natural marine habitat. Excellent for diving, even for beginners, this site has become a staple of the trip, both for admiring the captivating submerged shipwreck and for enjoying the warm summer sunset.
On the return journey, as is customary, we will search for dolphins, which, with a touch of luck, can be seen anywhere along the route, since the island lies within the Pelagos Sanctuary: a protected marine area dedicated to cetaceans and a genuine paradise for marine mammals.
